Giti Tire, one of the world’s leading tire manufacturers, has secured its first European electric vehicle (EV) original equipment (OE) fitment on the VW ID. Buzz, a battery electric minivan inspired by the Volkswagen Type 2 Microbus. The GitiSynergyH2 tire, which was designed in Germany and has low rolling resistance and high performance, will be fitted on the front and rear axles of the ID. Buzz. The VW ID. Buzz, which was named Overall Winner and Best Large Electric Car at the What Car? Car of the Year Awards 2023, is being produced in Hannover, Germany, near Giti Tire’s European Research & Development Centre.

Giti Tire’s first EV OE fitment in Europe:

A milestone for innovation and collaboration

Giti Tire’s first EV OE fitment in Europe is a significant achievement for both Giti Tire and VW, as well as for the electric vehicle market and consumers. It demonstrates Giti Tire’s commitment to innovation and quality, as well as its ability to meet the high standards and expectations of VW Group, one of the world’s largest automakers. Not only this, but this collaboration also shows Giti Tire’s readiness to adapt to the changing needs and demands of the EV market, which is growing rapidly in Europe and other regions.

According to Stefan Fischer, Managing Director of Product Technology at Giti Tire Europe, “Like every manufacturer, we know that electric vehicles are the future, and for years we have been developing tires made for current and future models. The fitment underscores our work to date, and we will continue to push the boundaries of tire development going forward.”

For VW, the choice of Giti Tire as its OE supplier for the ID. Buzz reflects its confidence and trust in Giti Tire’s products like SUV tires, as well as its recognition of Giti Tire’s expertise and experience in the EV field. VW has been working with Giti Tire for several years. And has awarded Giti Tire with other OE fitments across different regions and vehicle models as well.

According to Nicolas Kluson, Key Account Manager Europe OE, Giti Tire: “We have a great relationship with the Volkswagen Group that has been forged by several OE fitments across some of their leading badges because we are a trusted partner with proven tire performance and production standards.”

The collaboration between Giti Tire and VW also benefits the EV market and consumers, as it offers them a high-quality product that meets their needs and expectations, as well as environmental goals. The GitiSynergyH2 tire and the VW ID. Buzz are examples of how advanced technology and design can create products that are efficient, safe, comfortable, and stylish.

The GitiSynergyH2 tire: a low-rolling-resistance and high-performance tire for EVs

The GitiSynergyH2 tire is a specially designed tire for EVs that has low rolling resistance and high performance. It was developed by Giti Tire’s European Research & Development Centre in Hannover, Germany, which is close to where the VW ID. Buzz is being produced.

The GitiSynergyH2 tire has several technical features and specifications that make it suitable for EVs, such as:

  • A reduced rolling resistance coefficient (RRC) of 5.5 kg/t. This means less energy is needed to move the tire, resulting in lower fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
  • Improved wear performance of 1.6 times compared to conventional tires, which provides longer tire life and lower maintenance costs.
  • A high wet grip rating of A under EU tire labeling regulations for better braking and handling on wet roads, resulting in higher safety.
  • Optimized profile and contour that reduce tire deformation and improve load distribution, resulting in better stability and comfort.
  • A tread pattern that reduces noise generation and enhances water drainage, which translates to lower noise levels and better aquaplaning resistance.

The GitiSynergyH2 tire has a size of 235/55 R18 104V XL for both the front and rear axles of the ID. Buzz. It has a speed rating of V, which means it can handle high speeds without compromising safety or performance.

The VW ID. Buzz: Combining Old-School Vibe with New-School Fuel

The VW ID. Buzz is a battery-powered electric minivan that is inspired by the Volkswagen Type 2 Microbus. A classic vehicle that was popular in the 1960s and 1970s. The ID. Buzz is part of VW’s ID. family of electric vehicles that are based on its modular electric drive matrix (MEB) platform.

The ID. Buzz combines old-school cool with new-school fuel, as it features:

  • With a vintage style with a V-shaped front end, a two-tone paint job, and a roomy interior, the ID. Buzz pays homage to the original Microbus.
  • A cutting-edge system comprising an entirely digital cockpit, an augmented reality head-up display, and an ID autonomous driving mode
  • With two electric motors and a 111 kWh battery pack, it can achieve a maximum range of 600 km on a single charge, resulting in formidable performance.

The ID. Buzz also made its way to the What Car? Car of the Year Awards 2023, which are considered the Oscars of the car industry. The judges gave it high marks for fusing the economy of an electric car with the luxury and comfort of a high-end SUV and the functionality of a minivan.

Giti Tire and VW lead the way in the EV market

Giti Tire’s first EV OE fitment in Europe on the VW ID. Buzz is a major milestone for both companies and a testament to their innovation and collaboration in the EV market. The GitiSynergyH2 tire and the VW ID. Buzz are examples of how advanced technology and design can create high-quality products that meet consumer needs and expectations, as well as environmental goals.

The EV market is growing rapidly in Europe and other regions, and there is a need for more research and development. As well as policy support, to ensure its sustainability and competitiveness. Giti Tire and VW are leading the way in this field and are setting new standards for the industry.
